One More Hill

Greg Graffin from Bad Religion

It's a cheesy video, but the only one I could find with this song

I think about myself and my own situation. I struggle. I struggle with living a life to its fullest. The way you live is mostly in your control and the rest is dumb luck. When you are a kid you have aspirations. Who doesn't have desire to be a great person? I, at one time, had strong desire to be a successful musician. The desire came when I was 14 years old. I don't know why. Maybe it was the struggles of adolescence or moving to a new place and having to adapt. Something hit me at that age and I just worked at it every. I picked up a brass horn and played it 2 hours a day. I learned. I studied. I worked on rhythm. I shaped myself into something pretty good by 16 and great by 18. I just played and played until I was good enough to be in the California State Honor Band and get a scholarship to college for it. I wasn't necessarily book smart but I made the grades and became something. And then I went to LA to make it with music either as a performer or the business guy behind it. To be that top guy some where. And it all came crashing down in 7 short months. I was 23. The music in me that I grew kind of died. All that energy I amassed in 9 years sort of left and I fell into the comfort position of the job I have now. That was 10 years ago.

I sort of made the discovery the past week that this whole pain thing I am dealing with is possibly psychological. (Teeny is going DUH!!) I believe now that I am making myself hurt. I have hurt for the better part of 5 years. Ever since that concussion in 2002. All those headaches. Even back to my very first post, 472 posts ago. I am not getting better. Drugs aren't making me better. All that acupuncture bullshit I put myself through. The shots in the spine. The MRI's, the Spinal Taps and the physical therapy. I am coming to the realization that it is all bullshit. It's probably some deep seated depression I just need to get the fuck over.

I am going to be 34 in 28 days. I need to somehow go find that guy I was at 23 and wake his shit up. What the hell was I doing? I did everything and anything I wanted from the time I was 14 until I was 23 out of sheer drive. That and I just didn't see to care about the consequences of failure because that was not an option. I don't feel that drive. I am more or less watching the wheels go around. I need to step into a cold shower after a late night of partying. I don't necessarily need the music thing back... I just need the energy I felt being on top of my little world. When I walked out of college I was unstoppable. Naive as all hell yes... but unstoppable. I think getting that energy back will bring back to keep climbing one more hill.

One More Hill is one of my favorite song and Greg Graffin does an awesome performance on the album. "If you think you have reached the top of the world. Just look all around and you'll see."

The album is great. Buy it.

A Lesson In Great Parenting...

After assisting Elijah maybe 20 times up this slide, he decides to do it himself. I think about it for a second and I wonder, is this one of those proud moments like..."Hey, my kid is the best!" Or... is it normal for kids to do this at 13 months?

He even went down headfirst by himself which he has never done with assistance!!

This was the best video I got before he tripped and fell and got a little bloody nose. Then he went to the swing and showed an 8 month old up.

Here he is swinging... still a little blood in his snot nose:

Steve: Can We Just Go?!?!?

Okay... here is the final scene from poker night, the other night. Watch how I get pissed off... I just dealt the river and I am abruptly halted by my friend Scott who wants to film the final action as I lay down the last card.

Then his freaking battery goes dead.... LOL!!!

Watch me as yell, "Can we just go?" Really shocked there are no "f-bombs" from me.

End of the Year Extravaganza!!!

Been a whole week since I wrote something, so let's get to it.

For those interested in seeing THE graphic REAL SADDAM EXECUTION VIDEO linked to this BLOG, please click here. (Fair warning, it is real, it is gruesome but I didn't mind watching it 30 or 40 times. His eyes are still tripping me out at the end. Taken from a cellphone. Yes I am against the death penalty, but... )

Wow! What a year. Where to begin?

As most of my long time readers know, I cleaned house playing blackjack this year. Though I have not walked into a casino since early summer, I snared around eight grand. It was a lot of fun. I felt like a pro but now I am afraid to ever go back. Fear of losing even 50 bucks, if you can imagine that.

With those earnings I became a professional IKEA shopper. My IKEA faucet install post is still getting lots of hits and is number one on Google. The comments on that post are getting hilarious. I was called a political facsist from the links on my side bar. Hmmm... links on my side bar? I wonder what pia, gun-toting liberal and the cast and crew of Bring It On think about that? Sure my side bar leans right but there are a bunch of non-political and left leaning sites there as well. I am an equal opportunity employer here. I take it from all sides. And so what if what I say makes you uncomfortable, (teeny) it's a free country and those folks on that side bar, including the Mad Haiku guy (and if you haven't been there you are totally missing out) promote freedom better than anyone around. Including the Stop the ACLU guys. Kos is the real ass when it comes to political fascism.

We had our first child this summer. Elijah Joachim. Old school, old biblical name in a new body. It was and still is my proudest moment watching him be born. His eyes are mesmorizing. He is gonna be a knock out (especially if he takes after his father mother). Lately, he is enjoying my guitar. Let's hope he keeps that hope.

Lastly, let's all have a good 2007.

Here are my predictions:

Britney Spears will be pregnant by the end of the year with Ashton Kutcher's love child.

The San Diego Chargers will beat the Saints in the Super Bowl. (oooooooh)

LeBron James will fail to get the Cav's past the 1st round of the playoffs.

We will have a hurricane strike the south east, an earthquake in California but this will be Dick Clark's last Rockin New Years Eve.

The winner of American Idol will be Asian.

The leading candidate for both major parties will be apparent by next fall, both are not who we expected.

Barry Bonds will break the homerun record, late July in Cincinatti or St. Louis, he will not finish this year with the Giants.

In May, I will write a post blasting the a "pitiful" ending to the first season of Heroes. This is not what I want, I hope the ending will be great, but these are random stream of conciousness predictions.

I will break 100 again on a golf course, preferably on a 18 hole course.

Happy New Year!!!

A Christmas Birthday Wish...

I wish for him to be open, generous and kind.

Am I missing anything?

Merry 1st Christmas Elijah.
