Been Some Time...
Tonight though I want to challenge you all on something:
Let me preface this... I watched George Carlin's latest HBO special last night. He's good. I think the man is a genius. He's brilliant... I don't believe half the crap that comes out of his mouth one minute. But I do honor and respect his free speech stances in the past. And I laugh my ass off, he is one of my favorite comedians. One thing he talks about in his latest special is what we in America may consider as a whole, "our God given rights." Well, that is if you believe in God. I do... And I do believe our freedoms lie somewhere in our faiths in our religions whatever you choose to believe. I guess that is if you believe in a religion with a God. Perhaps not... I am sure there are some religions I'd feel safe with if they didn't believe in a God or what have you.
I digress...
Mr. Carlin brought up things he called bull shit in America. Like the Bill of Rights, which started with 10 rights, as God given rights but "omitted the whole slavery issue being a bad thing". And that we have amended our Constitution so many times over the years. Or how Germany has 29 amendments and the Brits have 13 or Sweden having 6... and so on. Or how we in America believe in the "pursuit of happiness" or "the American dream" and other things he called bullshit America things. Like freedom is our God give right in America. Why would God like our country over the 200 "less free" countries? I think he equated our laws and rules as being created by man to control the masses.
I went out tonight to get a burger. I went to the H&C place over on 16th and Broadway here in
I am in serious pain tonight, and I had to park far away because there was a music event going on across the street at the old Tower Records that was closed because all you kids illegally steal music with teh Napsters and teh Limewires and shit. (Ironically abusing someone else's American dream or "god given right") Anyhow, here I am 100 yards from the burger place, hobbling like a cripple because my legs hurt so freaking bad I cannot even move correctly (Need to get this shit checked out Steve) and I hear this rap group over at the old Tower covering NWA's Fuck tha Police.
"Fuck tha Police... Fuck tha Police... Fuck tha Police... Fuck tha Police... Fuck tha Police... Fuck tha Police... Fuck tha Police... Fuck tha Police... Fuck tha Police... Fuck tha Police... Fuck tha Police... "
I went on over and over and over... like the needle was stuck on the turntable. And I thought to myself, nearly out loud... What the fuck? It's a public corner. And these dudes are yelling their hatred and disgust with some misguided angst about the police from an old rap song from the early 1990's:
Ice Cube:Fuck tha police Comin straight from the underground. A young nigga got it bad 'cause I'm brown. And not the other color so police think. They have the authority to kill a minority
MC Ren:
Lights start flashin' behind me. But they're scared of a nigga so they mace me to blind me. But that shit don't work, I just laugh. Because it gives 'em a hint not to step in my path.
Eazy-E:
Without a gun and a badge, what do you got? A sucker in a uniform waiting to get shot. By me, or another nigga. And with a gat it don't matter if he's smaller or bigger.
Okay... the musician in me says one thing and the concerned parent hobbling out of his Charger to get some food thinks another. The musician in me says, the NWA song is a classic. The guys that wrote this song created a work of art. When we had the Hummer, I remember rolling down the road with the XM radio on the rap station blaring my honky, white ass ears out to the song. But... why must we hear it in public? And not by the real guys, I mean Eazy-E has been dead for years for that matter and why is it just out in the open air for the surrounding businesses and patrons, along with the residences nearby to hear? I mean... I might twitch if say John Lennon's Working Class Hero was sung out there to, with all the fucking f-bombs in that song.
So to me... this rap group was just a bunch of poseurs really, that figured they were gonna be out in public in front of the old Tower and how cute and funny and how "cool" they might be singing rapping this song out. What power and what real men they must feel like they have over say, the old lady on the other corner at the Tower Cafe eating a Caesar Salad with the love of her life on a cool Friday evening who really didn't go out tonight to be serenaded to the spiteful sounds of gangsta rap.
Perhaps there is just a meanness in this world...

3:10 To Berkeley...
So what the fuck is up with Berkeley?
Y'all see this? Stop... I don't pretend to know anyone that lives down there but what I can do is take a sensible position on this despite disagreeing politically with people from time to time.
I stop dead sharing an opinion of Code Pink or what have you and their right to protest (ironically defended by said Marines HoooRAH!) I don't care what your position is on the war, Bush...Obama kicking Hillary's white ass around the country or whatever.
However... I do care when a City Council like Berkeley's calls a Marine Recruiting office "uninvited and unwelcomed intruders". Uh... okay. So are they ceding from the Union too? Are they gonna bring the "naked guy" back to life to lead an army of conscripted engineering students and emo-fraternity slackers down the hill from Cal to Shaddock, armed with leaflets, forming drum circles to fight the Marines? I mean, gimme a break. Secondly... I think the city council should be recalled along with the mayor for allowing such an insensitive statement that panders to these kids protests. Be against the war, fine. I bet only 8% of the population in Berkeley is for the war anyway. But to take it out on a Marine recruiting office is quasi-blasphemy, (yeah I know "God" doesn't appear in the Constitution) but seriously it is scary and really reminds me of that archived footage of the 1960's Vietnam protests when my parent's generation had people attack the soldiers who were conscripted into the war against their will. The Marines and other Armed Forces recruiters can't all be located in Kansas or Wyoming where you'd stereotypically find gun happy rednecks. They gotta be welcome in all of our cities despite what we think about our President and the Iraq War. The city council is completely obtuse, and I actually feel sorry for Code Pink and the others, even though I disagree with them because this totally makes their cause look pretty sappy.
Bravo Berkeley!!! California, the land of fruits and nuts.

"My Wife's Gonna Kick Yer Ass!!!!!!"
Drunk Redneck Lawnmower Ride - Watch more free videos
It's starts getting funny at 2:30 and then rises to a full on laugh at 3:10
Teeny, DW, Kaya? Any ideas? Definitely not Wallace folk because they'd be on a John Deere not a Craftsman and the Buffalo Stop no longer has a bar. Even then, he'd be on a broken moped and would have prospector's gold mining gear on the back. Definitely not Arnold because there is no snow plow on it. Murphys folk have people do their yards for them. San Andreas? Angels? No big yards for grass... Anywhere else in the county, he'd be smoking weed and heading to the meth dealer's house, forget the beer!!! That just knocked off 90% of the county and those potheads would have ripped the engine out of this lawn mower and installed it in homemade go kart any way.
You really have to grow up in Calaveras County to understand this post. How did we learn to adapt to big city life, cable TV, "teh" internets and use "teh" google? How did we ever get to college let alone pronounce college? How in the hell do we still have our teeth? Did I just slam Bush again? Twice in one week? WTF?

When Liberals Go Bad
Crazy Anti-Car Protesters - Watch more free videos
Aye Carumba!! And the old lady got out of the car! I would have freaking floored it!
If you look closely I think you can see one of my readers. I can't point her out though with out her written permission and a cut of the profits I make on this blog.
Breaking News: Rosie O'Donnell In Sacramento Today!!!
Update:
Oops! My bad... That actually IS a whale that made it's way up the river. Reports said, "Whale... San Francisco Bay... Arrived in Sacramento". And there are two which means I thought Rosie brought his/her wife.
One can only draw the most reasonable conclusion. Not that a whale couldn't swim 80 miles up a river from San Francisco Bay. It's been done before!

When It Comes To The Environment: Hummer Beats Prius
When it comes to the environment, Hummer beats Prius hands down.
I had this startling revelation occur to me TWICE today in two different instances. One was from a psychologist and the other was in his waiting room while reading the National Geographic. (Note to Darling Wife: Let's get a subscription for it off one of your cheap websites).
As most of you know, we're a Hummer family. Proud owners frankly. My wife took a rear ender in it a few weeks back and all we had was a scratched bumper. Needs to say the other car needed some nice repairs and some paint. We get a new panel and they get a big bill. No biggy. No one was hurt.
This morning while at the doctor, I was reading the National Geographic from last year. It didn't dawn on me until way after that I should have taken down the issue number for this post. Anyhow, the article was talking about man has introduced new species into areas of the world and how the wreak havoc on the environments. Frogs in Hawaii. Snakes in the Everglades. You get what I am talking about. The article featured a fisherman in the San Francisco Bay and how ships from overseas have introduced foreign sea water into the bay killing off many species of fish that once thrived there. The article mentioned how when these large ships keep from tipping over by filling their hulls with sea water to keep them balanced. I then began to think of all of those foreign cars that come into SF Bay from Japan and Korea. Namely the hot selling Prius. The little "eco-friendly" car that brings a cancer to San Francisco's fishing industry with each boat load. Apparently the micro-organisms in the Asia water don't play well with the micro organisms in the bay which is disrupting the food chain and killing sea life. The article mentioned there were laws against this but whether they get totally followed or monitored is up for debate. We aren't talking a few gallons of water, we're talking thousands and they have to be emptied when the ship is unloaded. WOW!!! I never knew this.
The second thing came from my doctor and he told me how the Prius's battery or the stuff needed to make the battery comes out of some nickel plant in Canada. I found this article regarding this on Green Mesh.
To quote:
Building a Toyota Prius causes more environmental damage than a Hummer that is on the road for three times longer than a Prius. As already noted, the Prius is partly driven by a battery which contains nickel. The nickel is mined and smelted at a plant in Sudbury, Ontario. This plant has caused so much environmental damage to the surrounding environment that NASA has used the ‘dead zone’ around the plant to test moon rovers. The area around the plant is devoid of any life for miles. The plant is the source of all the nickel found in a Prius’ battery and Toyota purchases 1,000 tons annually. Dubbed the Superstack, the plague-factory has spread sulfur dioxide across northern Ontario, becoming every environmentalist’s nightmare.
“The acid rain around Sudbury was so bad it destroyed all the plants and the soil slid down off the hillside,” said Canadian Greenpeace energy-coordinator David Martin during an interview with Mail, a British-based newspaper.
All of this would be bad enough in and of itself; however, the journey to make a hybrid doesn’t end there. The nickel produced by this disastrous plant is shipped via massive container ship to the largest nickel refinery in Europe. From there, the nickel hops over to China to produce ‘nickel foam.’ From there, it goes to Japan. Finally, the completed batteries are shipped to the United States, finalizing the around-the-world trip required to produce a single Prius battery. Are these not sounding less and less like environmentally sound cars and more like a farce?
Wait, I haven’t even got to the best part yet.
When you pool together all the combined energy it takes to drive and build a Toyota Prius, the flagship car of energy fanatics, it takes almost 50 percent more energy than a Hummer - the Prius’s arch nemesis.
Through a study by CNW Marketing called “Dust to Dust,” the total combined energy is taken from all the electrical, fuel, transportation, materials (metal, plastic, etc) and hundreds of other factors over the expected lifetime of a vehicle. The Prius costs an average of $3.25 per mile driven over a lifetime of 100,000 miles - the expected lifespan of the Hybrid.
The Hummer, on the other hand, costs a more fiscal $1.95 per mile to put on the road over an expected lifetime of 300,000 miles. That means the Hummer will last three times longer than a Prius and use less combined energy doing it. clubs.ccsu.edu/recorder/editorial
So... that adds to the ongoing debate regarding the environment. Most of the quoted text comes from the Greenpeace leader in Canada? Eh? Pretty bad when Greenpeace is picking apart the Prius. I'll stick to enjoying my family's safety, the ability to carry home our IKEA Furniture without renting a Diesel Truck and our trips to the snow.

Cold War Kids: Great Band and Great Music
Hang me out to dry...
I'm totally groovin' on this stuff lately. If you end up with the cd or if you are one of the those sick people who download things illegally depriving the artist of his/her ability to profit off of their creation (Stupid Democrats!), check out the song Robbers by these guys. Great stuff. Cool video.
(Now before you give me a bunch of shit for tagging their video to my blog, to which I do not make a feeble attempt of selling anything on, think before you steal it for your iPod. 4200 songs, all bought and paid for. Majority of it was my existing CD collection I created by myself over the last 20 years. Funny, when my wife and I got together and merged the collection of CD's we ended up with like 1000-1200 with only around 100 doubles, which mostly were the Cure, Depeche Mode, REM, Nirvana and the Smashing Pumpkins)
I have that guitar that the guy jumping around with.... I love their sound because it is so different and yet so recognizable. I love that chiming full sound of the hollow body electric. Where Chuck Berry and BB King got their sounds, hollow body guitars. Very "White Album/Abbey Road" late Beatle sound with some new wave beats and grooves. Sounds a bit like Talking Heads too. That song Robbers I mentioned came on shuffle last weekend. Something about the peace and beauty of a great song. Robbers is by no means as good of song as their one here "Hang Me Out To Dry". But Robbers has such a subtle song that just sort of stopped me in my tracks when I first heard it. Kind of like, Redemption Song when I first heard it from Bob Marley. It attacked the soul. Robbers has this brush military style drum beat with this lightly sung tale that sounds like someone walking home from the bar after drowning their sorrows of stomping all over someone to get ahead.
Screw it, here is the video for Robbers:
Okay... enough with music reviews. Las Vegas sucked this week. Down 80 bucks but I really didn't play. That's good though, I won't be back there until May where I plan (yes darling wife) to hit it a little harder and see what shakes out, but staying conservative in my betting. I am seeking a $2000 blackjack win which is really hard at 10 bucks a hand but I believe it is possible.
Impeach Alberto Gonzalez!

One Great Video...
Guys... watch this video. This guy has nailed it.
There are liberals in this world and there are conservatives in this world. It actually makes the world go around. I kind of enjoy the differences in the world. The debates and fun.
But flamboyant celebrities like Rosie O' Donnell aren't above it all. It really kind of bothers me when a celeb makes a mistake and calls it entertainment. I know this incident happened a few months ago, but it's rebuttal shouldn't be forgotten because she is famous.

Steve: Can We Just Go?!?!?
Okay... here is the final scene from poker night, the other night. Watch how I get pissed off... I just dealt the river and I am abruptly halted by my friend Scott who wants to film the final action as I lay down the last card.
Then his freaking battery goes dead.... LOL!!!
Watch me as yell, "Can we just go?" Really shocked there are no "f-bombs" from me.

End of the Year Extravaganza!!!
For those interested in seeing THE graphic REAL SADDAM EXECUTION VIDEO linked to this BLOG, please click here. (Fair warning, it is real, it is gruesome but I didn't mind watching it 30 or 40 times. His eyes are still tripping me out at the end. Taken from a cellphone. Yes I am against the death penalty, but... )
Wow! What a year. Where to begin?
As most of my long time readers know, I cleaned house playing blackjack this year. Though I have not walked into a casino since early summer, I snared around eight grand. It was a lot of fun. I felt like a pro but now I am afraid to ever go back. Fear of losing even 50 bucks, if you can imagine that.
With those earnings I became a professional IKEA shopper. My IKEA faucet install post is still getting lots of hits and is number one on Google. The comments on that post are getting hilarious. I was called a political facsist from the links on my side bar. Hmmm... links on my side bar? I wonder what pia, gun-toting liberal and the cast and crew of Bring It On think about that? Sure my side bar leans right but there are a bunch of non-political and left leaning sites there as well. I am an equal opportunity employer here. I take it from all sides. And so what if what I say makes you uncomfortable, (teeny) it's a free country and those folks on that side bar, including the Mad Haiku guy (and if you haven't been there you are totally missing out) promote freedom better than anyone around. Including the Stop the ACLU guys. Kos is the real ass when it comes to political fascism.
We had our first child this summer. Elijah Joachim. Old school, old biblical name in a new body. It was and still is my proudest moment watching him be born. His eyes are mesmorizing. He is gonna be a knock out (especially if he takes after his
Lastly, let's all have a good 2007.
Here are my predictions:
Britney Spears will be pregnant by the end of the year with Ashton Kutcher's love child.
The San Diego Chargers will beat the Saints in the Super Bowl. (oooooooh)
LeBron James will fail to get the Cav's past the 1st round of the playoffs.
We will have a hurricane strike the south east, an earthquake in California but this will be Dick Clark's last Rockin New Years Eve.
The winner of American Idol will be Asian.
The leading candidate for both major parties will be apparent by next fall, both are not who we expected.
Barry Bonds will break the homerun record, late July in Cincinatti or St. Louis, he will not finish this year with the Giants.
In May, I will write a post blasting the a "pitiful" ending to the first season of Heroes. This is not what I want, I hope the ending will be great, but these are random stream of conciousness predictions.
I will break 100 again on a golf course, preferably on a 18 hole course.
Happy New Year!!!

My Tuesday Prediction.
Also on Tuesday, the sun will rise and fall just like normal. There will be stories of some disenfranchised voters, continued speculation of Lieberman's $387,000 petty cash fund and Harold Ford will refuse to concede defeat for three weeks because he'll want a recount.
In California 87 won't pass. 85, 88, 89 will. Measures 1a-e pass and the Kings will be moving to Vegas.
Then I am done with politics for a while.
And guess what, if the Republicans lose... it means the better team won. But still we'll always have the power of Voltron, defender of the universe at our side!

Thank God He Isn't President!!!!
“You know, education — if you make the most of it, you study hard and you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. “
“If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”Thanks for handing us another election!!!

When Socialism Strikes...
What is up with that? Kids getting are getting into too many collisions so the article says. They also note that the school banned dodgeball as well a while back because it was "exclusionary and dangerous."
Tag though is apparently unsupervised. Touch football has also been eliminated. What is the cause of all this?
It's mind control from the evil Socialists that plague half this country under the softer label of "Democrats". They want to take away all the fun we have in this world, like success, fancy cars and individual freedoms like the right to play "Tag!". It's a crock of shit if you ask me!
First they take our power, then they'll take our money, and then they'll take our women!!!

Greg Graffin: Cold As Clay

My focus on this post is the excellent CD, I found this afternoon on iTunes. Greg Graffin, lead singer of such bands as Bad Religion, one the greatest punk bands of all time (Social Distortion would be the best punk band) released a solo album, a la Mike Ness style. And it is out right awesome.
These punk rock songwriters sometimes can translate their music to other genres very well. It comes from the limited song form they use when composing. No room for themes and variations, it's straight verse chorus verse. You might get a guitar interlude but usually punk songs are riff driven.
Greg Graffin does a phenomonal job on this CD, playing folk, country and acoustic rock. His lyrics are deep and meaningful. However if you can't stand atheist liberals, this is not for you. And this comes from a conservative. (See Inner Logic post below)
Greg's voice lends itself well to his style. Doesn't really have to sing it to sound good.
My faves on this CD are:
The title track Cold As Clay
Don't Be Afraid To Run
Highway (Sounds folky and almost Baroque)
One More Hill (Almost Hank Williams-like)
Anyway good stuff if your ear likes acoustic rock or if you wanna try something new.

No Need for Altruism...
However...
I scored extremely low in altruism. Which I find weird. Let Webster's explain:
"Main Entry: al·tru·ism
Pronunciation: 'al-trü-"i-z&m
Etymology: French altruisme, from autrui other people, from Old French, oblique case form of autre other, from Latin alter
1 : unselfish regard for or devotion to the welfare of others"
Yeah, apparently this is not me. Supposedly if you are not my friend, nor can't help me in any way, I have a "Screw you" attitude. Which explains me running to the Hummer last night while getting a burger to avoid the pan handler who'd just take the money I could potentially have given him, to the liquor store to by a pint of Mad Dog 20/20.
Forget the fact, I donated to Katrina Victims and the Tsunami. Those people don't count I guess. Even all those clothes we specifically donated down there.
Nor, do I believe in the death penalty. I have written about this many times, the OJ acquital is why I am against it, no matter how sick and twisted the individual is or appears to be... We're always hearing about "new evidence" and dudes being let free after 20 some odd years ("Here comes the story of the Hurricane...") after we found out they didn't do it.
I mean, I scored in the 10th percentile in altruism. Maybe it's because I think every homeless person should just get a job or people shouldn't have kids if they are on drugs or can't afford them. I mean, seriously, people should take responsibility for their own actions if they get into trouble. I don't like government handouts... I don't like taxes that give money to lost causes. Handouts are a cottage industry.... we give employment to social workers to just help people... Not for me I guess.
It's all very interesting...

Well, He'd Better Blog Something!!
Gonna see a "shrink" on Friday! Yeah, that is cool stuff... A "shrink". Woo hoo... Well not really a shrink per se, but a psychologist. So no cool drugs to play with! This is part of my pain management thing I have been working on. My back, neck and wrist all still hurt from time to time but screw it, I play golf and strum my guitar anyway. (As my left hand slowly goes numb on the keyboard) I happen to be pretty fast typing on the keyboard but I notice lately with my hands, I tend to have a few more typos than normal, which is kind of weird. Something I should tell the dude I guess. I tend to hurt more in tense situations too. Like when I can't find my golf ball when there is money on the line or if I am stuck in traffic or if some snotty Cheeto fingered brat on a plane is bouncing his hard plastic green truck off my dome or something. Things I do enjoy like work aren't too tense in and of themselves. I like seeing "my people" even if only once a month, I like seeing them, spending time, helping them make money or save money or whatever it is I actually do that pays the bills. (Note: I still refrain from telling you people what I do for a living. It carries it's own mystique but half the regular readers are friends and well, they know) But really, what am I going to tell this psychologist dude on Friday? I know:
Y'all don't know what it's like, being male, middle-class and white...
Yeah, that'd go over well eh? Especially if he's not white...
Damn... Now I am sounding like our Governor. At least he is not gonna raise our taxes like Angelides. I swear, if ole Phil get's elected over Arnold, I am moving out of state because this hell hole is gonna get twice as expensive in a heartbeat. Dude, will repeal Prop 13 or something and jack our property taxes. He'll tax hard alcohol which will put a bind on my Whiskey drinking. (It's after Labor Day, start up the Knob Creek) I could go on... but why...
What's the point? Anyhow... Live strong peeps!!! Off to see Elijah some more!!

Something About Modern Times...
Ain't much time to be writing this evening. Been a busy, busy week. Something here seems to make it all during. Modern Times is "the" best Dylan Album ever!!! He sings on "Rolling and Tumblin":I ain't holding back now and I ain't standin in anybody's waySomething tells me, when a 66 year old man with the career he has had, and the mythical pedestal people have put Dylan on all these years, he just wasn't messing around. He's not fading away or doing it for the money.
Best track on the album: "When The Deal Goes Down"
You like plain old rock n roll with a hint of blues where you can hear a guitar, a bass and a simple drum line shuffling under a "clear" Dylan vocal then this is the album. (You can totally understand him!)
Good stuff... go buy it!
Vote Republican!

40,000th Visitor Was...
Used my wife's computer to access the net this morning on the in-laws WiFi, thus counting me as number 40,000.
So much for the fanfare in celebrating meaningless milestones. Remember when Catepillar hit my site 400 times back for 30,000. That was awesome.
50K by Election day... you heard it here first.
